Teaching Experience: While relatively new to teaching music, I've been teaching art for decades, and have taught countless other skills in various other fields. I love to learn, and teaching is best way to deepest understanding!
Teaching Philosophy: You can teach yourself anything- a good teacher knows where all the obstacles are and can guide you around them, and knows how to make the journey fun and rewarding.
Get to know Robert Houle
I began my musical journey back in fifth grade on trumpet, which got bigger every year until I was playing a tuba. I was also classically trained as a baritone all thoughout high school. I played and sang in all our ensembles, including jazz band and our competitive marching band. It was also in high school I got my first guitar and never looked back. I've studied composition as well, earning an award for Meritorious Achievement in Original Composition for a score I wrote to "The Glass Menagerie."
Years later I would get involved in the UAlbany Marching Great Danes as a student performer, then as an instructor and show arranger, writing shows based on Star Wars, Big Band Swing, ABBA, and more. I've also played in several local high school musical pit bands. Music has always been an immensely important part of my life, and the ability to share that love with others I consider to be the greatest gift I've gotten from it.
