About Ron Shank
Get to know Ron Shank
Ron has been teaching for over 30 years and strives to make every lesson fun. He emphasizes a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music, chords, scales, modes, and technique while specializing in improvisation and theory.
He studied privately for over 8 years with two renowned teacher; Kjell Benner of Quiet Riot and Mike Sembello, guitarist and music director for Stevie Wonder.
He teaches many styles of music including rock, blues, metal, pop, punk, funk and jazz.
Ron has extensive performance and recording experience with over 2,000 gigs and recordings at HIT Factory in New York City where the Rolling Stones, Blue Oyster Cult and Stevie Wonder recorded. He also opened for Grateful Dead in Philadelphia.
Many of his students went on to pursue degrees in music at prominent schools including Berklee College of Music, NYU and Goucher College. Several of Ron's students received scholarships to Berklee. Ron's most successful student started senior year theory as a Freshman by testing out of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year theory classes. He also has over 10 students who were 1st chair at Great Valley High School Jazz Band and several award winning students from the West Chester District. Ron has award winning students from Malvern Prep and General Wayne Middle School including music student of the year.
Ron has played up and down the East Coast along with playing and teaching exotic places such as Barcelona, Madrid and Pamplona Spain where they run with bulls.
Ron played in the cover band Wingin' It, with Jeff Dominick and the Fraction and Chris Adams with Fat Apple.
