      Get to know Ryan Farmer

My name is Ryan Farmer. I was born in Central Georgia and spent a few of my formative years living among family in Milledgeville before moving cross-continent to Washington State at the age of six. Since then me and my family moved semi-constantly, Montana being the only state we lived in for over a year at any one time. I can claim to have visited or lived in every state in the Union with the exception of California. In Montana I fell in love with the violin and at our eventual return to Georgia I began taking lessons at the age of thirteen, where I began performing in the local youth orchestra programs led by Mrs. Kerri Sellman, Mrs. Emily Calhoun, Mrs. Lorraine Jones, and Maestro Neil Casey; and studying directly under Mr. Ricardo Ochoa, a local gypsy violinist and then co-principal second violinist in the Savannah Philharmonic. During highschool, I studied under Mr. Lizhou Liu, also of the Philharmonic as a violist and when I entered college (Armstrong Atlantic State University for Music Education and Violin Performance) I studied under Mr. Mario Incorvaia and Dr. Melinda Rubin of the University of Texas. At this time I was also engaged as the Ensemble Manager for both the youth orchestra programs and for the AASU Wind Ensemble, in which capacity I began learning double bass. My academic achievements include being rostered on the Deans List for two years in a row, membership in the National Society of Leadership and Success, active engagement in the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, and performing my own arrangement of Scarborough Fair with the AASU Chorale led by Dr. Robert Harris. My professional achievements include but are not limited to: solo performances in various church productions, solo performances for weddings in and around the Savannah area, providing a performance for a score in the film Untouched, and a compositional commission for flute ensemble, performed and organized by the local flute choir led by Ms. Erika Andres. I currently live in Savannah, where I enjoy composing music, writing stories, cooking food, hiking trails, and performing with Savannah Winds.
