Get to know Sandy Starcher
Sandy Starcher has been involved with music and theatre arts for most of her life. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from USM, and a Master of Music from Florida State University. She is a past winner of the Yamaha National Electone Keyboard Festival, and represented the U.S. in Hong Kong at the International competition. At Gulfport Little Theatre, Sandy was musical director/arranger for Trial of the Big Bad Wolf, which won the grand prize at the Chunchon International Theatre Festival in South Korea. She has been a teacher, arranger, and field representative for the Yamaha Corporation of America; and worked as an arranger of sheet music for Hal Leonard Publishing.
Sandy has been rehearsal pianist, orchestra member, conductor, and/or music director for many musical productions on the Gulf Coast. She was also a co-owner of Broadway South Repertory; a theatrical group that produced musicals, most of which were new to the MS Gulf Coast area. In addition to that, she has been involved with musical productions in many theatres; including the Biloxi Saenger Theatre, Center Stage, Biloxi Little Theatre, Walter Anderson Theatre Project, Florida School of the Arts, and Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans.
She has maintained a private studio for many years, teaching lessons on piano, organ, and keyboard to students of all ages and levels. Sandy has many former students who continue to perform and/or teach music to this day, or just continue to play for their own enjoyment. She enjoys both teaching and performing; and also helping students to develop and share their talents at their own pace. After several years of teaching at MGCCC at both the Harrison County and Perkinston Campuses, she is currently teaching piano at Music & Arts in Biloxi
