Performance Experience:
I have performed music for nearly a decade in many different ensembles and capacities, including in guitar ensembles, quartets, and trios, rock bands, string ensembles, choirs and choruses, orchestras, jazz combos, and Renaissance ensembles.
Teaching Experience:
I began teaching privately in 2019.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that it is my job to help and encourage students as they learn how to play their instrument and work through the technical challenges they encounter, and to provide a solid foundation of musicianship and music reading skills to support students in learning and improving their playing abilities and to approach new music throughout their lives.

Sean Gibson teaches guitar, bass, strings, and mandolin, creating laid-back lessons that combine technique, musical concepts, sheet music, and tablature. Their personalized approach incorporates each student’s interests while building the skills needed to become a confident, independent musician. Sean draws from rock, jazz, classical, orchestral, and ensemble styles, with experience in improvisation, songwriting, and recording. They support goals ranging from performances and auditions to learning simply for enjoyment, emphasizing consistent practice and self-reliance. Sean holds a B.A. in Music from Cal Poly Pomona and a Single-Subject Teaching Credential in Music from National University.
