Performance Experience: This award-winning artist/composer/arranger has worked for over 40 years as a jazz and commercial pianist/keyboardist playing a wide range of music genres which include jazz and jazz fusion, gospel, blues, country, rock, and pop music. In the last 4 decades he has worked with artists and groups like Spyro Gyra, Tuck & Patti, Tony Guerrero, Eric Marienthal, Buddy Rich, Brandon Fields, and gospel vocalist Carver Cosse.
Teaching Experience: Over 40 years of Private/Group/Clinic instruction experience.
Adjunct Professor of Jazz and Commercial Keyboard as well as Composition / Arranging for University Nevada, Las Vegas since 2016.
Teaching Philosophy: A well rounded approach to teaching should always be utilized to help the student understand music from either a performance, theoretical, or harmonic view point. Education should also be fun as well as educational.

Whitmer is currently a commercial/jazz piano as well as composition and arranging
Professor at University Nevada, Las Vegas. Shawn has over 40 years of teaching
experience in the classroom, privately, and in group settings teaching beginning
to advanced piano, jazz theory, improvisation, jazz/commercial composition, and
arranging. He believes in a well rounded education in order to create a strong
musical foundation for beginning and intermediate students. Shawn is available for both in person as well as online teaching.
