About Shem

Shem Cohen is a guitar, mandolin, and ukulele teacher who works with beginner to advanced students, creating personalized lessons that balance structure, creativity, and fun. He specializes in classical, fingerstyle, acoustic, and electric guitar, teaching styles that include folk, rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, and classical music. Lessons focus on technique, fretboard knowledge, music theory, rhythm, ear training, improvisation, and performance skills while helping students learn the music they are most excited to play. Shem believes that musical growth happens through discovery, encouragement, and meaningful practice, creating a supportive environment where students can develop confidence and lifelong enjoyment of music. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance, has over 30 years of teaching experience, and has performed and collaborated with internationally recognized musicians, including Grammy Award-winning artist Jordan Rudess.
