Education: Tanner received his B.A. in General Music studies at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington in May of 2020, and his M.M. in Guitar Performance at Appalachian State University in August of 2022.
Performance Experience: Tanner began performing in blues and rock groups in 2008, and continues to do so today. He has also performed as a solo classical guitarist at UNCW and Appalachian State performance seminars, and at Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington and the Raleigh Museum of Art. During his time at UNCW, he sang in both the chamber and concert choirs.
Teaching Experience: Tanner has been a teacher of guitar, bass. ukulele, drums. voice and harmonica since 2012. He has taught classical and jazz guitar at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington from September of 2017 until May of 2020 and at Appalachian State University from August of 2020 until May of 2022.
Teaching Philosophy: "I believe in meeting students where they are and working with them to discover and achieve their unique goals as musicians of any skill level."

Tanner McAteer is a multi-instrumentalist teacher and performer of several genres and styles of music including rock, pop, jazz, classical, blues and bluegrass. Based in Fayetteville North Carolina, he has been teaching, writing and performing music since 2012. He completed his M.M. in guitar performance at Appalachian State University in August of 2022.
