About Terry Thompson

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston MA with a BM (Bachelor of Music) Music Composition. My instruments of specialization include Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet.

In my roll as a private instructor I emphasize and encourage the use of proper technique, music appreciation and general musicality. I also strive to help my students realize the creative aspects of music when playing and practicing their instruments.

I utilize a variety of music books and publications to help the student gain confidence and grow as a musician. This includes all styles of music that are of interest to the student.

I have been fortunate to have many highlights in my private teaching career. Helping my students who are enrolled in school band programs excel is one such highlight. Many of my students have advanced to higher seating levels within their bands and often receive certificates of honor. I’ve also had numerous students audition and be accepted in District Band programs. Two of my students were also accepted as members of the Virginia All State Band program. This is one of the highest achievements to reach as a High School band musician.
