About Timothy M
Get to know Timothy M
Tim has been playing music since he was 9 years old. Through those early years, he had a lot of experience with all different instruments, finally landing on the saxophone. Tim’s love of jazz music started in middle school when his music teacher would play Miles Davis while the band was setting up their instruments. Tim began his saxophone career with the tenor sax, learning jazz tunes and how to improvise solos in them.
Tim has been active in the community and has performed with the Maynard Community Band, the Lab Rats jazz band, and the Cape Cod Conservatory summer jazz program, where he took his first step in mentoring young musicians. Since then, Tim has taught saxophone to adults and children of all skill levels and has enjoyed every second of it.
Tim has been inspired by many musicians of various genres through the years, including Gerald Albright, John Coltrane, Shabaka Hutchings, and Clarence and Jake Clemons. Because of the large variety of styles he listens to, Tim has been inspired to pursue music by learning multiple instruments, including alto, baritone, soprano, and tenor saxophones, as well as, drums and guitar.
Tim emphasizes the importance of having fun during lessons, while he ensures the fundamentals are being taught. He takes a step-by-step approach which allows students to build their confidence and skills in a sequential manner, while at the same time learning how to apply those skills to reading music and performing.
