About Tom Walkey
Get to know Tom Walkey
Tom began his musical studies in 1963, studying privately with renowned saxophonist and educator Joe Viola at the Berklee School of Music. In 1966, he attended the U.S. Army School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, before serving with the 18th U.S. Army Band in Ayer, Massachusetts, from 1966 to 1969.
Following his military service, he performed professionally with the Sonny Stanton Band in Boston from 1969 to 1971 and the Jimmy Mosher/Paul Fontaine Orchestra in Lynn, Massachusetts, from 1971 to 1972. From 1973 to 2014, he was a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians, performing throughout the Greater Boston area at major hotels, private events, and corporate engagements.
In addition to his extensive performance career, Tom has dedicated many years to music education. From 2004 to 2010, he taught music at Spofford Pond Elementary School in Boxford, Massachusetts, and Georgetown Middle/High School in Georgetown, Massachusetts. Since 2010, he has continued sharing his passion for music through private instruction, helping students of all ages develop their musical skills and confidence.
