About Tonio

Dr. Antonio (Tonio) M. Hunt is a pianist, music educator, conductor, and college professor with more than 18 years of experience teaching music to students of varying ages and ability levels. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from Morehouse College.

Dr. Hunt currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, where he teaches and conducts collegiate musicians. Before entering higher education, he enjoyed an extensive career as a secondary music educator, conductor, accompanist, and private music instructor.

As a piano teacher, Dr. Hunt especially enjoys working with beginning and developing students and helping them build a strong musical foundation. His lessons incorporate healthy piano technique, music reading, rhythm, ear training, musicianship, creativity, and repertoire selected with each student’s interests and development in mind.

Dr. Hunt believes that learning the piano should be both educational and enjoyable. He strives to create an encouraging, patient, and engaging lesson environment in which students can develop confidence, musical independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music. He welcomes children, teens, and adults, whether they are sitting at the piano for the very first time or returning to music after time away.
