Speaks: English
Instructs: French Horn, Piano
Education: B.A. in Music, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Bernhard Scully and Jim Pugh
Local graduate of Plano West Senior High School band and jazz band programs
Performance Experience: Recitals, wind bands, marching bands, brass and woodwind chamber ensembles, orchestras, musicals, operas, jazz big bands, jazz combos, church choirs, and a Gregorian chant choir.
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching private horn and piano lessons since 2016. For 3½ years, I also taught music and movement classes in Montessori schools.
Teaching Philosophy: I want to cultivate confidence, independence, and self-expression in my students. Confidence comes naturally from seeing hard work result in growth and success. I encourage independence by asking what songs and genres students want to learn and teaching them to listen critically. I introduce composition and improvisation very early on because I believe music is the most fun when you create it yourself.
Get to know Victoria Golden
I started learning piano and voice at age 3 here in the Dallas area. I also learned French horn in middle school band and went on to study horn in classical and jazz settings at the University of Illinois. I have always had a passion for writing music, which drew me to jazz and improvisation despite the horn being a non-standard instrument. I love all sorts of music, and some of my favorite artists are Debussy, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Horace Silver, Electric Light Orchestra, The Police, and Jacob Collier. Teaching music is an amazing privilege for me because I get to see my students grow and flourish over time, and I get to share a beautiful and fundamental aspect of humanity with so many people.
