About Wendy Lai
Get to know Wendy Lai
Wendy started playing piano at age 6. With her father’s musical influence as an
instrumentalist playing Jing Hu in Peking Opera, she joined the Lutheran Voice
Children’s Choir of Taiwan in the 70’s, where she enjoyed many concert tours. At
age 11 she was appointed by the head of the music department of her school as
the first student accompanist to appear at all assemblies, state and national chorus
competitions and TV shows. Over the
years, she has entered many solo and ensemble contests, winning numerous
winning prizes. Wendy has over 25 years of public performances as a keyboardist
in church worship ensembles, chamber ensembles, weddings, and memorial
services. She has over 30 years of
teaching using holistic and comprehensive approaches, credited to her
interdisciplinary trainings and experiences in Music Technology. Wendy started teaching since her high school
senior year and joined Music & Arts in 2009. She has held annual recitals with
her students, which never repeat a theme. Many of Wendy’s students perform in music
festivals and competitions, earning outstanding and honorary awards. In addition to competing, her students also
participate in music outreach events, auditions and festivals including
performances at local schools, healthcare facilities, senior centers, cafes and
shopping malls.
Wendy is an active member of Central New Jersey’s Piano
Teachers Forum, and the Music Teachers National Association. Her studio went “green” in 2018, as she has
integrated hands-on teaching applications, paperless assignments, and an online
announcement portal into a perfect environment for teaching through distance
learning.
