Get to know Billy Marter
Billy Marter began as a street musician in Washington, DC in the late 80's. After returning to Mississippi in the 90's, he began playing solo in coffee houses and in bars with rock bands. He studied classical guitar at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community college and received a scholarship for further studies at USM and then was awarded a scholarship for graduate studies at Southeastern Louisiana University, and received his master's in music with a classical guitar concentration in 2001. During graduate school, he gigged two or three times a week both as a soloist and with a rock band. He then moved to Japan, formed "The Billy Marter Blues Band" and performed with “the Okazaki Mandolin Ensemble” while working as an English teacher. He returned to America in 2006, and now sings and plays guitar at restaurants and bars around Ocean Springs a few times a week and teaches guitar and music appreciation at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. In 2014, he was featured on prime time television in Japan on Nippon Telebi's "Nodojiman The World". He is a recording artist on Sound of New Orleans Records http://www.soundofneworleans.com/new.html
