Education: I have a BA in philosophy with a minor in guitar performance. I continued taking music classes and private lessons for a few years after my official college graduation.
Performance Experience: I've been performing music for for nearly 30 years with various local and regional acts. I currently play with five different bands and keep a full schedule playing close to 100 shows per year.
Teaching Experience: I have over 20 years of teaching music under my belt and have been a full-time music teacher for the past 10 years
Teaching Philosophy: I want my students to play the music that they are interested in so they will be motivated to pick up their instruments. During the lesson, I use whatever song the student is working on to launch into a music theory lesson, including scales and chord spelling. I also try to get all of my students excited about learning to read sheet music and becoming proficient with their note reading, this provides a lot of structure for the lessons.

Get to know Kevin Turner

Kevin Turner was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia and got his start in music during elementary school by singing in chorus. Kevin has always been a singer, but guitar solos have always been his favorite part of a song for as long as he can remember. He bought his first guitar at age 14, and has been studying, exploring, performing, teaching, creating, and sharing music for nearly 30 years. His current bands include Family Tree, R.I.O., SlingShot on Mars, The Kings of Ukulele, and Thunder Chief. Kevin is one of the most popular teachers in the Music & Arts family because he has really honed in on his ability to present the material in a fun way that students can understand. Due to his hard work and dedication to learning and teaching music, Kevin has the honor of being the first full-time teacher in the entire Guitar Center Enterprise.
