Get to know Paul Kigenza

The desire to start learning the piano didn’t start until later in life, though I had been exposed to it most of the time in church choir where I used to sing as a kid. I assumed it must be a hard instrument to play given that it has so many keys. As time went by, I decided to give it a try and realized it was easier taking one step at a time, which is true of all instruments. The good thing about learning piano is that when you learn a piece of music well, you are hooked and able to learn another one, Before you know it, you have a varied repertoire to play. My philosophy to teaching piano is the same way I learned; start with baby steps then build onto it. According to me there’s no age limit to learning piano so long as you are interested. I have taught piano students starting at the age of 3 all the way to 80 years. Music is a universal language which transcends human understanding, and piano is the mode through which that language is communicated.

My music career spans more than a decade. It includes teaching piano, being an organ accompanist for various churches, piano entertainer, and music arranger.

I hold a diploma in Instrumental Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in (UK).
