About Rowena Orrell

Hello, 

My name is Jane and I have been with Music and Arts since December 2019. Having received my Masters Degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy with a minor in piano at the University of Colorado, I have spent my life teaching students of all ages. From being an adjunct voice instructor at the University of Colorado, to spending countless years in the public school system teaching K-5, I am passionate about encouraging and developing music in the lives of others.

I teach to help spread the love I have for music; seeing the smile on a student's face when they finally understand and master a skill we have been working on is nothing short of priceless. While music has had its part in my life since I was a young girl, it has followed me and grown alongside me. Being a refuge to heal my heart in the rough times and there to bind us in celebration for the joyful moments. 

I adore teaching: voice, piano, and recorder! For my beginning voice students, especially if elementary aged, I work on breathing and learning to read treble clef. Typically picking songs from Musical Theatre or Disney, as these are often suitable for my young beginners. For my older students, we will focus with breathing and determination of voice range. As for my piano students, I prefer the use of the Fabre series because of its ability to blend lesson, theory, and technique books, giving the students a strong comprehension of the piano. For my recorder students, we will work through Recorder Karate accompanied with songs I personally transcribe. 

Each student has different reasons for pursuing music. Whatever their personal goals, I want to guide them to see those goals filled to the fullest. Having in the past students that have won multiple NATS awards, music scholarships, grants, and who participated in local honors chorus, I work to prepare and challenge my students to reach their greatest potential while discovering a deeper love for music.
