About Alex Ward
Get to know Alex Ward
Hey there! My name’s Alex and I teach guitar and ukulele. What I love most about guitar is the variety of techniques and genres that can be played. There is always more to learn and explore on the guitar. When I started playing I was all about classic rock, but as I got older I started to open up to a variety of different styles of music. I realized you can use techniques from one style to improve on another. For this reason I love to teach my students many styles so they can be well rounded guitarists.
I’ve been playing guitar for 15 years now. I earned a degree in Music Performance from Guilford college, with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. There I focused my studies on classical guitar. I’ve taught at several music programs and music camps over the years, including B Natural Academy of Music and the Arts, Girls Rock camp in Durham, and Greensboro Montessori School. I also worked for the NC Folk Festival and for a well known Luthier company, Roscoe Guitars.
I believe music can be an amazing outlet for anyone, and also a great confidence builder. Everyone learns at different rates and in different ways, so I try to teach in the way that best fits that individual. My key teaching strategies are patience, communication, and fun! The best way to learn is to play the music you love, and discover a passion for playing. Learning to create and appreciate music, stimulates the mind and can allow you to see the world in brand new ways.
I teach Electric Guitar, Acoustic guitar, Classical Guitar and Ukulele; along with how to read music and music theory.
