Teaching Philosophy: My desire as a teacher is to make sure that my students gain the necessary tools as a percussionist/drummer to be able to confidently enter any musical situation and bring something unique and creative to the table. If the student is able to execute this while loving every note they play (NOT JUST THE FILLS AND SOLOS) then I feel I have succeeded as an instructor!
Get to know Coleman Williams
I am a drum set and percussion instructor with Music and Arts. I have been playing the drums for almost 9 years, with experience in all styles and genres. I spent four years in the music department at NC State University in Raleigh, NC, where I studied Jazz and played in the school's Jazz Orchestras. Since then, I have moved to the DC area, where I play live, tour, and perform session work for many of the musicians in the DMV. My goal through teaching is to bring a love of drumming and an appreciation for the amazing players that have come before us. I also seek to emphasize the importance of music and melodic instruments, as they are vital to the decisions and creativity of the drummer!
