Performance Experience: Erika's performance highlights include playing for the Imani Winds and with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall. She has been invited to the National Music Festival in Chestertown, MD, the Renova Music Festival in New Castle, PA, and ARIA International Music Festival in South Hadley, MA. Erika currently is a member of the Salem Quaker City Band and a substitute for The W.D. Packard Concert Band.
Teaching Experience: Erika's teaching experience dates back to her high school days when she began teaching private lessons to middle school students out of her mom's dining room. For the past 17 years, Erika has been consistently teaching students of all levels. She imparts all the knowledge she's gained from her many years of training and looks forward to bringing out the best in every student!
Teaching Philosophy: It is important that each and every student progresses at his or her own pace. Erika encourages this by setting realistic goals for her students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps motivate and fuel desire to progress, practice and learn even more. By learning what inspires the student, Erika can successfully tailor her instruction to the student's wants and needs.
Get to know Erika Mapus
Erika Mapus has been teaching clarinet and saxophone since 2004. She graduated with her Masters in Music in May 2013 from Carnegie Mellon University and received her Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin Wallace University. Erika has performed for the Imani Winds, and also has been invited to the National Music Festival in Chestertown, MD, the Renova Music Festival in New Castle, PA and ARIA International Music Festival in South Hadley, MA. Her teachers include Tommy Thompson, Dan McKelway, Lawrence McDonald and Joe Kane. Erika currently is a member of the Youngstown Scoring Stage and the Salem Quaker City Band and is a substitute for The W.D. Packard Concert Band.
