Education: I am the music theory tutor at UNCA for the academic year. I have also taught private saxophone lessons for the past few years to other students older and younger than myself, ranging from fundamentals to Jazz theory. I also had the opportunity to run a tiny weekly course last year teaching middle schoolers about the connection between Jazz and Democracy and how they are very interlinked.
Performance Experience: I have performed with many school-sponsored groups during my time at UNCA. I have also played around town in Asheville and Winston-Salem/Greensboro for the past few years playing various forms of Jazz. I have also done a lot of work in recording studios for other people's projects ranging in styles from Rock and Pop to new-age big band Jazz.
Teaching Experience: Other than my music teaching experience I have also had the opportunity to coach a swim team in the past, working with kids from ages 5-18 to increase their technical skills, sportsmanship, and understanding of competitive swimming. I also gave 1 on 1 swim lessons to people of all ages during this time.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that the biggest reason to play an instrument is because you find it fun. The process of making music and playing and exploring your instrument should be something exciting and relaxing to do. I mean, they don't call it “playing an instrument” for no reason.

Hello, my name is Ethan Ebert, I
am 22, and I am in my final year at UNC Asheville to get my BFA in Jazz and
Contemporary Music. I have been playing Saxophone since I was 12 years old and
have no plans on stopping anytime soon; I have just recently in the past few
years picked up clarinet due to the need for clarinet players in a big band
setting. I spent most of my time up until college, teaching myself how to play
with the little instruction I had, coming from my high school band director. I
have a love for music of all types and I believe it is a powerful tool used to
achieve a level of communication that is unmatched.
