Performance Experience: I performed with George Mason's Guitar Ensemble and Chorus during my college years. Since then, I have led concerts and performances in the public schools in North Carolina.
Teaching Experience: I began teacher martial arts since the age of 10. I began my music career a year later on piano. When deciding on my future, I combined my love of teaching with my love of music. I have taught individual lessons and group lessons in both piano and guitar during my college years and after. I taught music within the North Carolina public schools since 2015.
Teaching Philosophy: Music is something fun and enjoyable. It should be something you want to do and enjoy everyday. The foundations you learn allow you to expand your horizon, allowing you to have even more fun and make music more enjoyable for you.
Get to know Gene Tinkham
Hello! My name is Gene. I have been playing music since I was 11, starting with the piano before adding the guitar a year later. I graduated from George Mason University in 2014 with degrees in Guitar Performance and Music Education. Since leaving college, I have taught music within the Franklin County Public Schools as an Elementary School Music Teacher; I have also taught chorus and general music in the Whiteville City Schools.
While I play many different instruments (including Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Ocarina), my primary instrument is guitar. Outside of playing and performing music, I enjoy martial arts (I'm a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo), computers, and spending time with my friends, partner, and family.
