      About Henry Sierra Velasquez

      Henry Sierra Velasquez
      Henry Sierra Velasquez
      Music Teacher, Professional
      Location: Manassas, VA
      Speaks: English, Spanish
      Instructs: Bass Guitar, Guitar, Ukulele
Education: I studied classical guitar and music theory under the great Dr. Miroslav Lonĉar for 4 years, working not only towards becoming a more refined and well rounded guitar player, but a better musician and person as a whole. I am now currently working towards a 'Jazz and Popular Music' bachelor's degree at the Northern Virginia Community College. I plan to continue my music studies at George Mason University after achieving my bachelor's degree!
Performance Experience: I have performed live with the multicultural music band World View led by the excellent and highly acclaimed music instructor, Dr. Miroslav Lonĉar, at multiple colleges such as Radford University, Liberty University, James Madison University, and Shenandoah University. I have also performed at the Radford International Guitar Festival, National Cherry Blossom Festival (Washington, D.C.), Zoolights at the National Zoo (Washington, D.C.) and many other events and celebrations.
Teaching Experience: I taught others how to play the electric/acoustic guitar, the electric bass guitar, and the ukulele after-school (Park View High School) during a period of three years. Since then I've been teaching students independently for the past 2 years while also attending college.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that learning and playing an instrument should always be fun, because once it is no longer fun it becomes work, and all motivation to keep going vanishes. This is why I listen to students about what interests them, and why they really want to learn how to play guitar/bass/ukulele. Once I'm aware of what motivates them I plan the lessons around the techniques, theory and songs that will not only improve their guitar playing skills, but also keep them engaged and excited to keep going.

Get to know Henry Sierra Velasquez

(Hablo Español!) Hello/Hola! My name is Henry Sierra and I am a guitar player and teacher at the Music and Arts of Manassas. I began playing guitar at the age of 13, when I signed up for a classical guitar program in 8th grade, and since then I haven't been able to put down the instrument! I went on to study for four years under the wing of the wonderful and wise Dr. Miroslav Lonĉar, who guided me all the way into performing with a classical guitar trio, a multicultural music band called World View, and as a solo musician. I've studied multiple genres ranging from country to classical, however I love playing and specialize in Jazz, Fusion, Blues, Rock and Metal. I've been teaching friends, family, and classmates how to play bass, guitar, and ukulele for about 5 years now and I'm ecstatic to be teaching here at Music and Arts!
