Location: Asheville, NC
Instructs: Guitar, Trumpet
Education: While my degree was in composition, I worked alongside many aspiring educators at a music school renowned for its music education program, and learned a lot from them and the teachers we shared.
Performance Experience: The Trumpet has taken me as far as Europe where I performed in various countries under the American Music Abroad Program. I also marched trumpet (and snare drum) for the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band. I have performed in various ensembles, solo gigs, and bands. I particularly enjoy the percussive acoustic playing, but also love jazz, classical, lo-fi, and soundtrack.
Teaching Experience: I taught at the Newark Community Music school for over 5 years, teaching guitar, and received their Instructor of the Year award the one year they decided to give something of the nature. I’ve been teaching trumpet, drums, guitar, and music composition independently for over ten years. I’ve also led public seminars on arranging, orchestral conducting, and composition for several years.
Teaching Philosophy: The most valuable lesson I learned in music school actually had little to do with music - It was learning how to practice. Many of us start out thinking that to learn music (or an instrument), it's going to take hours upon hours as this massive, daunting undertaking. But it really isn't.
