About Laura Brothers

Get to know Laura Brothers
Laura Brothers grew up in a musical family - her parents played piano & organ, her brothers each took up brass instruments, and Laura took up the clarinet in addition to piano. She began piano lessons at the age of 7 and continued to study piano into high school. Laura accompanied students for juries & festivals and enjoyed sight reading new music & developing that skill. She was accepted at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 1971 & graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music Education in 1975. The degree encompassed both instrumental & choral piano playing, giving her the considerable flexibility required to accompany various groups & ensembles from children to adult choirs in church as well as accompanying for vocal & instrumental students for other teachers at numerous workshops & camps.
Laura has taught beginning to intermediate piano to young children through older adults. She enjoys using a variety of methods depending on the needs & interests of the students. She believes learning to play the piano is foundational to learning other instruments and that it touches other building blocks of disciplines such as math, reading, vocabulary, discipline, and hand/eye coordination as well as being an emotional outlet. Whether it is for recreational/personal enjoyment or a desire to become an accomplished musician, it is Laura's goal to inspire a love of playing piano & a creative outlet to express the joy of our souls.
