Get to know Mark Ewing
Mark Ewing Jr. brings a dynamic blend of performance, education, and leadership to our teaching team. A lifelong low brass specialist, Mark has been a member of the Gaston Symphonic Band since 2005 and currently serves as its conductor, following years of service as section leader, assistant conductor, and board member.
Mark is the Director of Bands at Holbrook Middle School in Lowell, NC, and previously led the band program at Cherryville High School. Since 2008, he’s also performed professionally throughout the Charlotte metro area, appearing with ensembles such as the Carolinas Wind Orchestra, The Stardusters Big Band, Buzz City Brass, Charlotte Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, and the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, where he served as principal tubist.
In lessons, Mark combines technical precision with a passion for musical storytelling. He’s especially enthusiastic about expanding the wind band repertoire and introducing students to the rich, thematic music of video games—bridging classical foundations with modern inspiration.
Mark offers expert guidance rooted in experience, creativity, and a deep love for the low brass voice.
