Get to know Mitch Romney
Born and raised in rural Colorado, Mitch has been playing the drums for over 20 years. As a young drummer, Mitch studied African drums under incredible teachers including Abdoul Doumbia, Dr. Djo Bi, and Fara Tolno. He received his Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Brigham Young University in 2020, where he studied under Dr. Ron Brough and Jay Lawrence. During his time at university, he played with BYU’s flagship Philharmonic Orchestra, Tangents Percussion Quartet, and Synthesis Big Band. He toured internationally with university ensembles to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. He also worked for seven years as an accompanist for BYU Contemporary Dance.
He has extensive gigging experience in a variety of settings, including but not limited to jazz big bands, wedding and corporate event bands, pit orchestras, pop, rock, hip-hop, gospel, funk, and punk bands. He’s toured nationally with his own bands, and currently plays drums for two projects: Salt Lake City-based band Ferrin and LA-based artist Beeson.
In his free time, Mitch is an avid reader of fantasy and sci-fi, a gamer, and a vinyl collector.
