Performance Experience: I have been playing trumpet since 3rd grade like most students of the instrument. I currently am in a number of groups in the DMV area and also sub occasionally in a number of different groups as well. I love playing and 100% love performing and recording at a high level.
Teaching Experience: I have a passionate interest in passing on the skills and love of trumpet and brass playing in general. I was taught by the best and have a strong desire to pass this ability and experience on to coming generations.
Teaching Philosophy: Students deserve total focus from a teacher, I am completely willing to give that. That said, it does not mean that all students should be approached like they will all be pros one day. Some might and they should be given the tools and competencies for that. Others might want to just have fun at school band class. Still others might just want to play on their own. A teacher has to understand the student's interests and teach accordingly. One size fits all is not the proper approach.
Get to know Ralph Burrows
I am primarily a trumpet player, although I am versed in other instruments as well. I attended Manhattan School of Music and studied with some of the best trumpet professors and players in the country. While living in New York, I played in all sorts of groups from Orchestras to Jazz bands to Salsa. Since moving to this area I have expanded the styles I have played to include Blues, Reggae, Disco, R&B, Wedding Bands, Hip Hop, etc. I love playing but I equally love sharing my experience through teaching.
