Performance Experience: I have performed with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Duke University Wind Symphony, Triangle Brass Band etc.
Teaching Experience: I have 21 years of teaching experience from Elementary, Middle, and High School music.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that all students, regardless of socio-economic status, physical or intellectual ability, should be given the opportunity to discover and explore their innate potential as musicians, and to increase these natural capacities through formal music instruction. The goal of music education is not only to form an appreciation of the music of others, but also encourage children to shape their own unique musical identity, through academic study and performance opportunities.
Get to know Steven McKeiver
Mr. McKeiver is currently the Director of Musical Studies at Kestrel Charter School. He is a graduate of Fuquay-Varina High school, and North Carolina Central University. He has studied Music Education at Methodist College, with a concentration on Euphonium and Trombone under the direction of Dr. Richard Jones. He completed his degree at North Carolina Central University where he studied euphonium under Dan Clouse and trombone under Robert Trowers and conducting under Pamela Halverson. While at North Carolina Central University he served as a student conductor under Jorim Reid and Samuel Rowley. He has been affiliated with several high school band programs through North Carolina and outside. He is an active member of the Rho Beta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc.. In Steven's spare time you will find him on the golf course, playing with his gas powered remote control planes/cars, at the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
