Susan Goldsmith (Ms. Sue)
I am a native Marylander having grown up in Adelphi, MD. At a young age, my parents instilled
in me a love for music. My father played trumpet and my mother was a concert pianist. When I
was five years old my grandmother came to live with us. She was a piano teacher during the
“Great Depression”, therefore, I got to be the recipient of her wonderful talents for daily lessons.
Between my grandmother and my parents, they passed on their love and passion for music to me.
I played for Sunday School classes each week by age nine; performed Cantatas with the Youth
Choirs before becoming the youngest church pianist at 18. Later years, being keyboardist for a
local church band.
For over five years I have been teaching and inspiring our next generation of musicians. (Older
students always welcome!) Learning the piano is a great instrument to learn as it lays the
fundamental foundation of reading music that can help one to explore other musical instruments.
There is nothing more rewarding than to see my students musically express themselves that can
open a whole new world of exploring their musical talents and gifts.
