      Get to know Christopher Wilson

      Dr. Wilson's journey began at Mars Hill University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education. With a focus on Bass Clarinet Performance, he immersed himself in the world of music, quickly developing a love for teaching that would shape his future. After receiving his degree in 2002, he took on the role of Director of Bands at North Iredell Middle and High Schools. Over the next several years, his relentless drive and innovative teaching methods garnered recognition, as his concert and marching bands consistently achieved superior ratings at local competitions.

      With an eye toward expanding his expertise, Dr. Wilson pursued a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting at Northern Arizona University, further honing his skills. After graduating in 2012, he took his talents to Cane Ridge High School in Nashville, Tennessee, before bringing his experience back to North Carolina. His tenure at Concord High School solidified his reputation as a distinguished educator, as he not only led the band program to numerous accolades but also inspired students to reach their full potential musically and personally.


      Dr. Wilson’s dedication to education doesn’t stop at teaching music. His journey also led him to administrative roles, earning a Master's degree in School Administration and a Principal’s License. This multifaceted experience allowed him to understand the intricacies of the educational system from various perspectives. As an Assistant Principal at Hendersonville High School, he championed initiatives designed to foster a positive school culture, always keeping students' best interests at heart.

      After a brief period away from the classroom, Dr. Wilson has returned as the Director of Bands at Polk County Middle School, where his influence continues to grow. In this role, he creates an environment that nurtures and inspires students to explore their musical talents and develop their unique voices. Dr. Wilson believes in the power of music to unite, inspire, and heal—a philosophy he brings to life every day in his teaching.

      His extensive performance background, from the Asheville Symphony to the Johnson City Symphony, enriches his teaching and provides students with firsthand experience of professional musicianship. Moreover, his involvement in various professional organizations and leadership development workshops exemplifies his commitment to continuous improvement—not just for himself but also for his students and peers.

      As a single father of two, Dr. Wilson exemplifies balance and commitment, managing to inspire his children along with the next generation of musicians. His ability to connect with students, combined with his empathetic nature, fosters an inclusive and nurturing classroom atmosphere.
