      Get to know Alex Martin

With expansive experience as both a concert violinist and composer, as well as a veteran of the video game and animation industries, Alex provides a uniquely broad view of music and its integration with the broader media landscape.

Studying with esteemed soloist Dylana Jenson in his youth laid the foundation not only for his powerful soloistic style, but also a strong focus on the importance of body mechanics to both musical expression and prevention of tension related injuries. Alex graduated with high honors from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance with a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance. While there, he not only mastered mainstream repertoire staples like Bruch and Beethoven concertos, but also expanded his range with a specialty for underappreciated masterpieces, like Ysaye's haunting Poème élégiaque and the Butterfly Lovers Concerto by Chen and He. He has composed extensively for solo violin, chamber ensembles of all sizes, and symphony orchestra, premiering several of his own works including a Requiem Meditation and a fiendishly difficult Duet for One Violin.

Alex has taught both individual lessons and in classroom settings both in the US and Japan since he was 16. He always aims to give his students not only a greater knowledge and appreciation for music, but the foundations necessary to practice for success and to play without pain for a lifetime. Alongside basic technique, he integrates fundamentals of Body Mechanics, Music Theory, Eurhythmics, and Musicology to give his students a well rounded understanding beyond mere technique.
