About Benjamin

From an early age, Benjamin Strickland has been determined to become a major force in the music business. Recently, a U. S. Navy musician stationed with the Naval Forces Europe Band, he has been a major influence in their classical, popular music, and jazz groups, especially in introducing the music of New Orleans throughout Europe and Africa, as well as arranging music for all the Navy's various ensembles.  As a civilian, Ben also leads and manages several bands under the Strickland Music Productions umbrella, including his acclaimed Funk Band, whose debut album will be released next year.

A North Carolina native, as a child his family surrounded him with musical opportunity and education.  He began playing the trumpet at age eleven, and ever since has devoted his soul to mastering it as well as educating others. Benjamin began his formal education at Greensboro College, and studied with some of North Carolina's top Jazzmen, Benjy Springs, Neil Clegg, and Dave Fox to name a few. His love for the music of Count Basie thrived here, and after finishing his undergraduate degree, he was invited to study with famed Basie trumpeter Scotty Barnhart at Florida State University.  While working on his masters degree, his passion for arranging grew under the teachings of trombonist and arranging guru, Paul McKee.  Ben's arrangements have been featured by bands all over the world by various high school, college, and military bands.  His arrangements will soon be featured on the web site. Until then, please contact him for inquiries.

Since college, Benjamin has been an active member of JEN, the Jazz Education Network, and is devoted to teaching music to people of all ages and educating the world about Jazz, America's classical music.

In 2009, Benjamin joined the Navy Music Program and was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana. While in New Orleans, he was fortunate enough to have shared the stage with some of the cities finest musicians including Dr. John, Meter's, Guitarist Leo Nocentelli, New Orleans Night Crawlers as well as too many Brass Bands to name. In 2012, Ben then was moved up the Mississippi to Memphis, Tennessee. He quickly became a regular member of the Memphis Jazz Orchestra, and played with Blue's Pianist Victor Wainwright and Hope Clayborn's Soul Scrimmage, as well as the up and coming Mighty Souls Brass Band.

Since moving to Naples, Italy Benjamin and Erin are touring throughout Europe and Africa, and have appeared at Roma Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazzfest, and the Pozzuoli Jazz Festival. Recently Benjamin and his family have returned to North Carolina. To stay up to date with their up coming projects and gigs as well as new album releases please sign up for the mailing list!
