About Calvin Evans Jr.

Calvin Duane Evans Jr. is an honors graduate of Hampton University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, and Master’s Degree in Teaching. He has demonstrated his commitment to developing an appreciation for music in our youth. As a counselor at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Alexandria VA, Calvin established a music program, where he provided piano and voice lessons.

In the summer of 2016, Calvin was awarded a highly selective internship with the John F. Kennedy Center, for Performing Arts in Washington D.C. During his internship, he spearheaded the Kennedy Center Youth Council. The goal of the Council is to encourage an interest in the arts among a diverse demographic. Through the Council, Calvin prepared students to be ambassadors of the Kennedy Center. He created the Council’s mission statement, application, and calendar.

His conducting experience includes the Hampton Roads Flute Choir, and Kecoughtan High School Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. Calvin’s original compositions have been performed by the Hampton University Concert Band, and Tappan Middle School in honor of retired band director, Fredrick A. Smith in Ann Arbor, MI.
