About Me

My name is Don Gardner, and I have been working with Music & Arts since 2010. I began working as a Sales Associate at our Frisco, TX location and became an Educational Sales Rep in 2011. As an Educational Sales Rep with Music & Arts, I visit several school districts on a weekly basis including Argyle, Aubrey, Dallas, Krum, Melissa, Pilot Point, Plano, Ponder, Sherman, Whitewright and Wylie. Musicians and teachers in these school districts usually work most closely with the Music & Arts locations in Plano, Garland, Allen, Frisco and Lewisville.

Before joining Music & Arts, I was a music educator for 17 years. I began my career in 1991 teaching band at Knox Junior High School in The Woodlands, TX where my bands received the first ever junior high UIL Sweepstakes awards in the history of Conroe ISD. In 1995, I moved to Plano ISD where I taught for 3 years at Williams High School and the following 8 years at Bowman Middle School. In 2006, I moved to Prosper ISD where I completed my final two years of band directing. After leaving band directing, I joined a leading business travel services provider where I assisted in developing an online training curriculum for their proprietary travel software.

I have been involved in music my entire life by singing in church, taking piano lessons, participating in the Garland All-City Boys Choir and just generally loving music. I began my band experience in 6th grade in Garland, TX where I played tenor saxophone at Brandenburg Middle School and Lakeview Centennial High School, and I was fortunate to have some incredible teachers such as George Jones, Lynn Childers, Mike Lipe and Gail Levinsky. During that time, I had the opportunity to perform in All-City and All-Region bands and progressed to the All-Area band. I also particpated in numerous solo and ensemble performances and was selected as an Outstanding Solo Performer at the 1986 Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.

After leaving high school, I attended University of North Texas where I received my Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Education degrees. During that time, I performed in the UNT Wind Symphony under Dr. Robert Winslow, the UNT "Green Brigade" Marching Band under Dennis Fisher and the UNT Jazz Lab Bands. While at North Texas, I had some incredible experiences as I performed on a tour of Japan with the Wind Symphony, was a Drum Major and Drill Instructor with the marching band, worked as a librarian for the band department and earned membership in the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

I have been married to my wife, Stephanie, for 23 years. My son, Stephen, is currently a sophomore at Texas State University, and my daughter, Melissa, is a freshman at Texas Tech University. I recently began playing my instrument again after a few years off, and I am currently playing tenor saxophone as a member of the Carrollton Wind Symphony under the direction of Jim McDaniel and James Moen.
