Hi, I’ve been a clarinet player most of my life and decided early that being a music educator was for me. My Bachelor and Master of Music Education Degrees from the University of New Mexico gave me great opportunities to teach band and elementary music full-time for several decades and have had All-State, All-Region and All-District students in Nevada, Texas and New Mexico. Many of my students have also earned honors at Solo and Ensemble Contests. Now retired from public education, I love getting to focus on music with students one on one. I have taught privately part-time and full-time over the past several decades. Many of my students have earned college music scholarships and/or continue to play music throughout their lifetimes. My hope is that every single one of my students will enjoy music in a more in-depth way having studied music with me. My primary instrument is still clarinet and I doubled on oboe in college. I have made and adjusted oboe reeds for my students. As a band director, I taught all the instruments but have performed on clarinet, oboe and saxophone. I’ve also played guitar since high school and have taught numerous guitar clubs and private students. I enjoy a variety when it comes to styles of music, but my favorite styles are classical and folk. If you hear me listening to the radio, you’ll probably hear that I’m a classic rock and country fan too. At the same time, I’m happy teaching the music that my students enjoy learning no matter what the style. I play locally in the College of Southern Nevada Concert band and in an assortment of groups for church concerts. Things about me that might surprise you – I repair instruments, I’ve taught social dance classes and computers and I love Math. My loves beside music include my family, my Bassets and Siamese, New Mexico, social dancing (jitterbug,) TV crime shows (especially Kenda,) Mexican food, mountains and the Vegas Golden Knights.
