Erik Malmer is an educator and bassoonist located in Columbus, Ohio. Originally from Houston Texas, Erik Malmer began playing the bassoon at the age of 12. As an educator he has taught bassoonists of all ages and skill levels having taught at Marrieta College, the Ohio State University, and five years as a private lesson bassoon instructor at Fort Bend ISD schools in Sugar Land, Texas. As an orchestral musician, he served a one-year position as principal bassoon of the Baton Rouge Symphony and has also performed with Opera Project Columbus, the McConnell Arts Chamber Orchestra, Symphony of Southeast Texas and the Brazosport Symphony. Mr. Malmer has also attended numerous summer music festivals including the Texas Music Festival, Orchestral Institute Napa Valley, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, and the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Bassoon Performance from the Ohio State University with Karen Pierson. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from the University of Houston under the tutelage of Elise Wagner.
