About John Patrick

John Lane is a private teacher and performer of flute. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from Indiana University, where his principal teachers were Thomas Robertello and Jacques Zoon. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he previously studied with Ruth Ann McClain. John’s final degree recital at Indiana earned the Performer’s Certificate – the School of Music’s highest non-degree honor. In 2003, John participated in the Sarasota Music Festival. Active in the National Flute Association, he has served as a judge for its High School Soloist Competition's recorded round in 2008 and 2010 and its Young Artist Competition's quarterfinals at the 2017 Minneapolis convention. He has served as the High School Soloist Competition's coordinator since 2015.

John now performs as principal flutist of Sinfonietta Nova and as a freelancer. He previously played principal flute as a substitute for the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra in Brazil, and for an orchestra in Monterrey, Mexico. He has also performed with Garden State Symphonic Band and served as an instructor and performer with The Fifes and Drums of the Old Barracks.
