About Mr. Mathisen

Jordan Mathisen knew at an early age that music would be a thread in his daily life. His early years were filled with music as his classically trained mother would fill the silence of their humble home with beautiful performances on the piano, guitar, and with her voice. Mathisen started as a clarinetist in his middle school years through college. As a member of the Coronado high School Band, he enjoyed the award winning tradition of this program and the wonderful tutelage of Mrs. Danielle McCracken. After serving his senior year as a drum major for this award winning program, he returned as a visual instructor from 2010-2011. He was promoted to Woodwind caption head in 2012. In 2013, Mathisen became the Woodwind Caption head at Arbor View High School through 2015 and Assistant to the director of percussion, Mac Purdy, through the 2016 indoor season.

In 2010, Mathisen was selected as a member of The Desert Winds, a contemporary wind ensemble. In addition to being featured as a bass clarinet soloist with the DW, he served as the music librarian and assumed his position of staff arranger in fall 2013. His arrangements have been featured throughout the United States. Presently, Mathisen continues to work with Artistic Director, Dr. Charles A. Maguire on a multitude of projects bettering music education in the Las Vegas area.

In his tenure at University of Nevada Las Vegas, Mathisen studied to be a music educator and composer. He performed with the UNLV Wind Orchestra from 2011-2013. He can be heard as a featured soloist with this ensemble on the recent successful recordings released by the Klavier Record Label, “Lost Vegas” and “Ventanas.”

In 2010-2011 and 2012-2013, Mathisen performed with the Vegas Vanguard Percussion Theater, receiving a bronze medal in 2011, and silver medal in 2013, at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, OH. Taking his teachings to the classroom, Mathisen taught and designed productions for indoor percussion ensembles at Basic High School (2014), Sierra Vista High school (2015-16), and Arbor View High School (2015-16).

Currently, Mathisen holds a Bachelor of Arts, and is the Director of Bands for Pinecrest Academy Horizon and St. Rose Campuses in Henderson, NV.
