About Laura

Born in New Orleans, LA, violinist Laura Callon moved to Houston, TX when she was eight. She began studying violin when she was ten and has been playing ever since. She recently completed her Bachelors of Music in violin performance at the University of Houston Moores School of Music under the instruction of Dr. Kirsten Yon.

Laura’s studies have brought her around the country, performing with the Moores School Symphony Orchestra in Chicago, IL and with the prestigious Eastern Music Festival student orchestras in Greensboro, NC. She has spent the past two summers at the Eastern Music Festival, studying with several of the members from the faculty orchestra, including Joan Griffing and Ioana Galu. This summer her studies will take her to London, England, where she will attend the Cambridge International String Academy and focus on violin technique and solo performing.

Laura joined the Music & Arts Sugarland staff in January of 2014 and has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with her talented students. After 12 years of playing the violin, Laura is still finding new and exciting aspects of music that continue to inspire her performing, as well as her teaching. She hopes to help motivate her students to love music, too, and to enjoy the journey of learning how to play the violin.
