I started on alto saxophone after a trip to Pittsburgh and seeing my grandpap play one of his old instruments. He'd had his own polka band back in the day, and his brothers played, too. Turns out my dad knew how to play, so he started teaching me.
I surpassed his knowldge fairly quickly, so he got me a private teacher. She eventually convinced me to branch out into clarinet, piano, and in high school, bassoon (which would become my main instrument).
I currently play in three Chester County community bands with my dad. In the two concert bands I play on a Fox model 222 (with the optional high D key, even though I never need it).
In the 18-piece dance band my dad's the treasurer of, I'm the swing member of the sax section. I practice 2nd tenor on my grandpap's Selmer Mark VI, but if I'm called upon to sub in where needed, then I might have to play on a Selmer Signet clarinet or my grandpap's Martin low-pitch Alto.
I also have a Roland digital piano serving as a bookshelf in my bedroom, with the storage bench happily fulfilling its true purpose - Storage space.
