Matthew Hough is a composer and guitarist in Houston Texas. At an early age he showed an interest in music and enrolled in the junior high band playing french horn. At fourteen he began guitar lessons with rock guitar virtuoso Rusty Cooley, focusing on music theory, harmony, and advanced guitar techniques.
In the Fall of 2010 he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. While in college he studied jazz harmony and arranging with Paris Rutherford, guitar and improvisation with Fred Hamilton, and composition with Joe Klein. Hough has had two of his compositions performed during the Denton Jazz and Arts Festival.
Hough then spent the following two years studying guitar and advanced theory with Miles Okazaki, South Indian music and rhythmic theory with Ganesh Kumar, and 20th century composition with Sarah Summar.
Currently, he is an active member of the hard rock group Day of Reckoning.
