About Patti Ravilious

I grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D. C. where I first fell in love with music while taking piano lessons from the founder of the Music & Arts Centers, Benjamin O'Brien.  I went on to attend the University of Maryland in College Park where I earned bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance.  At the University of Maryland, I studied with Nelita True and did some post-graduate study with Fernando Laires.

After college, I taught piano at several Music & Arts Centers in the D. C. area, and then, for nine years, I taught piano and piano pedagogy at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.  To help the local private piano teachers and their students there, I started a local chapter of the Music Teachers Association. This organization provided an annual opportunity for students to be gently evaluated for their progress and for teachers to learn better ways to teach.

Although I was perfectly happy as a piano instructor, my life took a different turn.  I earned a master's degree from the Yale Divinity School and served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church until retiring in 2016.  My music background was in constant use during these three decades because of participating in the church music programs and planning music for services.

I recently retired and my husband Carl and I moved to Middletown.  In retirement, I'm looking forward to coming full circle back to my music roots, teaching piano again at Music & Arts Center.  I hope that you will be my next new student!
