My interest in music has taken me around the world. I’ve lived abroad in Mexico and Ethiopia, soaking up as much music as I could. I earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Riverside. As an undergrad, my main instrument was piano, and to this day I enjoy performing works by great composers like Debussy, Chopin, Bolcom, and Rachmaninoff. I also spent a brief stint at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I began playing jazz. I also played keyboard in a rock/jazz/funk group in San Diego.
I am currently adjunct faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver, in addition to my duties here at Music & Arts. I also play in a wide range of ensembles ranging from Afro-Cuban, to West African, to Balinese music.
Whether your interest is in the keyboard music of J.S. Bach, the punk rock of The Ramones, or dance fueled rhythms of rumba and salsa, I’m always ready and willing to talk music and culture here at Music & Arts!
