Thinking about picking up an instrument for the first time, but don’t know where to start? Not sure if lessons are right for you? This is the event for you!

The last Saturday of every month, we have the opportunity to give those interested in lessons to meet the teachers before committing to instruction. Teachers showcase their skills, give some basics about the instruments and discuss their teaching style in a friendly atmosphere. Appointments are strongly recommended as there are limited spots for each event.

This month’s teachers are:

1.) Andrew Smith - Trumpet/Brass
Andrew comes to us highly recommended from our Mt. Kisco location in New York. With a talent of making lessons fun for the students as well as the parents, Andrew is a perfect choice for making trumpet as enjoyable as possible. With his previous experience working for the circus, students can expect a very enjoyable lesson!

2.) Elana Lekach - Violin/Viola
Elana has over 16 years teaching experience in various studios as well as local schools, but has also been freelancing violin for many years. Students of hers have gone on to enhance their music in such prestigious groups such as the New York Youth Symphony.

3.) Rich Derbyshire – Sax/Woodwinds

Rich has been teaching in local school districts for the past 15 years, having been in the Dumont school district at least 7 years. Rich has also been a judge for All-State and Regions auditions, so he knows exactly what to look for to help all players succeed. A jazz player at heart, Rich is able to teach for all genres to help make music even more fun.

4.) Steve Bello – Guitar/Bass/Music Theory

While also a gigging musician, Steve has been teaching guitar for over 20 years. While heavy metal is his personal preference, Steve also enjoys teaching other styles including funk, blues and jazz.

5.) Richard Siegel – Piano/Vocal

With an impressive New York/Broadway background, Richard has also toured all over the world, including France, Japan and West Africa. Richard teaches all styles of music, whether on piano or vocally.  Rich has been heard several times telling students, “Just sing!”

6.) Helga Kaefer – Piano/Songwriting

Helga has been teaching piano for over 15 years, incorporating games and singing into her lessons. When not giving lessons, Helga is a staff writer for Sunset Gallery Music, working in inspirational & faith based music. To continue her love of music, Helga founded and is the president of the Bergen County Songwriter’s Group.
