Many musicians often overlook the importance of listening to recordings of their own playing. jThe wide-spread assumption is that by listening to yourself as you play, you achieve the same effect as performance while it's going on, you distract yourself, and very little is achieved.
By referencing a recording of youself, you're able to separate the judging from the practicing. When you do this, musical growth can occur at a much quicker pace. You will notice subtle issues in many aspects of your playing that would have otherwise been ignored. You may even notice several larger issues. The first time I recorded myself, I was quite shocked at how much I was missing. I encourage you to try it out at least one time, you may be suprised by how much you'll learn.
