What's one instrument that you've always wanted to learn? Chances are, you didn't say bassoon, you just said guitar. If that's the case, this event will be absolutely perfect for you! Pointers 4 Players is a free, introductory, group guitar lesson that we host bi-annually. This event will be held on January 26th, 2019 in store and will be split into two different sessions.
The first session will be hosted by our Friday guitar instructor, Patrick Grogan at 11 am on January 26th for Electric Guitar. Patrick is a dedicated and passionate guitarist, bassist, and educator. Having started his musical journey playing rock, folk and, funk, and eventually coming to study jazz, he is able to teach not only a wide variety of styles, but music theory and instrumental technique as well. Patrick has studied jazz guitar with musicians Tom Kozic and Steve Yankee, working on both improvisation and on the arrangement of standards to be played in a solo guitar setting. Patrick believes the key to musical success is to focus on the music you are most passionate about. For this reason he believes it is crucial to develop a unique lesson plan for each individual student. He believes this is the most effective method to accomplish the ultimate goal of music lessons: to give the student the tools they need to fully appreciate the joy of music. He loves nothing more than an eager student and enjoys teaching children and adults alike!
The second session will be hosted by our Saturday guitar instructor, Corin Duey at 1 pm on January 26th for Acoustic Guitar. Corin is currently a Jazz/ Music Ed major, at Temple University. He grew up and attended school in Cheltenham, PA where he played percussion, clarinet, and guitar in various ensembles. He began studying guitar at the age of eleven, and while jazz is his focus, he started by playing rock, and spent four years studying classical guitar. In the past few years, he has played for local productions of The Little Mermaid, The Adam’s Family, Shrek, Bye Bye Birdie, James and the Giant Peach, Zanna Don’t!, Sister Act, and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. More recently ,he has performed in ensembles directed by great artists such as Tony Miceli, Mike Natale, and Tim Green. Regardless of style or genre, Corin has a strong belief that improvisation is the key to a deeper understanding of music.
